Rugby fans urged to get cover

Rugby fans who are planning to travel abroad to follow their sides' progress in the Six Nations have been encouraged to get cover for their trips.

Halifax Travel Insurance has stated that many of the same risks which apply to longer breaks can still occur on short trips to watch sporting events.

The company has added that it may make more sense for those who are planning to have longer holidays later in the year to take out annual policies, as it may prove more cost effective than single trip alternatives.

Paul Birkhead, the firm's underwriting senior manager, said that annual cover proves "a more attractive proposition for many people".

He added: "The main benefit of annual cover is that you only need to take out your policy once a year to be insured for as many trips as you like within a 12 month period, allowing rugby fans to focus all their attention on getting to the game!"

The AA's public relations manager Ian Crowder also recently praised the cover, stating that taking out a policy before a trip abroad is "always a good idea".ADNFCR-1054-ID-18477575-ADNFCR
